3 Insider Secrets for Success and Satisfaction as a Mompreneur
A guest post by Leslie Campos.
If you’re a stay-at-home mom, you’re already putting a lot of work in. So there’s no reason why you can’t take that determination and translate it into a successful career as a mompreneur. Running your own business and succeeding at it could change your life for the better, and these pointers can get you started.
Efficiency Is Key for Mompreneurs
You’re no stranger to getting things done as quickly and as effectively as possible. This is one experience and/or skill that can help parents like you succeed with their businesses, particularly when you are trying to achieve some semblance of balance between your life and work.
As you may already know, technology can be a priceless resource for maximizing efficiency and minimizing the margin for error. For example, payroll for startup companies can be simplified when you use comprehensive payroll software. With the right software, you can easily:
-
- Establish a consistent and automated schedule for payroll and payments.
- Figure out necessary employee withholdings without any guesswork.
- Ensure that taxes are taken out appropriately and without any delays.
- Put together and pull vital reports and information for your business.
You’ll also need to be efficient with hiring help for your home and business. Spend some time on your recruitment and interview practices so that you know you have the right talent from the start. Otherwise, you could end up losing out on the costs of onboarding replacement staff.
Maximizing Your Productivity
If you have aspirations of being a mompreneur, tech can help you stay productive. There are countless apps and tools that will help you organize your daily tasks, whether they are related to your kids or business, and then knock out each one with less effort. Mastering your time-management skills is also critical for your business and work-life balance.
Other tricks that help have less to do with tech and more to do with boundaries. You may need to block out strict work hours and to set clear boundaries around this time with your family. It can also be beneficial to hold yourself accountable to your tasks. For instance, if you start a task, don’t stop until it is complete, or consider starting the day with the project you keep putting off.
Now it goes without saying that establishing boundaries with toddlers and younger children can feel like a serious challenge for stay-at-home moms. The key is to set your rules and then really stick with them! Shut the door if you need to, or let your kids have a little more screen time.
Taking Time for Self-Care
As much as you need to guard your work hours from family, you also need to be protective of your family time. It does take some focus and dedication to get a new business off the ground, but you still need quality time with your partner and children. If this proves difficult, try turning your phone off after work hours or taking breaks during the day.
Learning to establish limits around your availability and work hours is also a good way to ensure you have time for some much-needed self-care. While enjoying time with your family can count as one form of self-care, you also need to spend a few moments each day caring for just your needs.
Some busy moms swear by waking up a little earlier to get in some morning meditation or staying up a little later to journal about their day. You can also spend this time taking a relaxing walk or meeting up with supportive friends, or you could simply get in some quality rest.
You’re already helping to build the future generation of leaders and thinkers. So building your own business should be a piece of cake. With the right amount of efficiency, productivity, and work-life balance, mompreneurs like you really can have it all and enjoy it all!
