How to Start A Business Despite Living With A Disability

How to Start A Business Despite Living With A Disability

September 29, 2022 Disability, entrepreneurship, Goals, start ups

Guest post by Ed Carter

Starting a business is stressful in any event. But it can be even more complicated if you’re a parent living with a disability, and you have your own unique set of challenges to deal with. Nonetheless, it is important not to view these challenges in a negative light. Instead, one should try to look at ways to use what could be perceived as a disadvantage to your advantage instead. Here are some tips on how to build a business step by step.

Get the necessary funding to launch your business

One of the most challenging aspects of starting a business is building up the requisite capital for your business. There are various options available for you if you don’t have the start-up funds to begin with. For example, you could start by going over the Small Business Administration grants list to start with for organizations that might be willing to offer grants to people with disabilities. Then there’s also the option of getting a loan with the Accion Opportunity Fund.

Look for a business idea that is going to be viable for you

There will be some businesses that will just not be practical or viable for you, depending on your disability. This is where searching for the right business opportunity is paramount in allowing you to fulfill your business dreams as easily as possible. Also, your idea doesn’t have to fit the norm; if it works for you and you’re passionate about it, and there is a market for it, then these are sure signs that your business idea is well worth exploring.

Self-care is also important

Self-care is important for all entrepreneurs, no matter your background or challenges in life, as self-care provides us with the opportunity to replenish ourselves mentally and physically. For a person living with a disability, self-care is all the more necessary, as you may have to take more time off to rest or recuperate.

Getting help where needed

Suppose you run an e-commerce business, and you just don’t have the time or resources to get the leads you need to surpass your break-even point. You may need to outsource marketing professionals such as a lead generation company to get those much-needed leads for you through cold calling, PPC ads, content marketing, etc. Finding the right professional for you is quite easy to do with job boards that can be found easily online. For example, you can scour freelancing sites to find lead-generation marketing professionals. However, be sure to check out what their delivery timelines are as well as what their costs and reviews are so that you can make the best choice possible based on what your business requires and what your budget is.

Speaking of marketing your business adequately, using the brilliance of technology to advertise your business is a no-brainer. For example, you can design a Facebook ad quickly and easily with a Facebook ad maker. All you need to do is make use of the pre-made templates available online, which you can then personalize by adding any information that you think would make your advertisement stand out, such as adding your logo, your brand colors, and fonts that are unique to your brand. There are a host of other marketing tools you can use to market your business without really having to do a lot of the work yourself, such as using a web hosting service to host your website for you online as well as maintain your website for you.

These are just a few of the measures you can implement to help you create a business, even if you feel like you don’t have the confidence to run a successful business on your own.
